The name Apatite comes from the Greek apatao – “to deceive” – because the stone was and is easily confused with other minerals. Mineralogically, apatite is a calcium phosphate and exhibits a remarkable variety of colors: colorless, brown, yellow, green, blue, and rarely pink and violet. The blue variety is one of the most sought-after gemstones. The fine, faceted 2.5 mm spheres are ideal for delicate jewelry work and as accent beads.
