Picture jasper (also landscape jasper) is a variety of jasper that mineralogically belongs to the chalcedony group (SiO₂, microcrystalline). Mohs hardness 6.5–7. The name jasper comes from the Greek for "spotted". Mineral impurities of up to 20% create the characteristic, picturesque patterns that resemble landscapes, deserts, or abstract paintings – hence the name picture jasper. Each bead is unique.
