The Stones
Aquamarine: Beryl variety (Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈), Mohs hardness 7.5–8. The name is derived from the Latin "aqua marina" (seawater). The blue color is created by traces of iron. Locations: Brazil, Madagascar, Pakistan, Russia.
Peridot: Olivine group, (Mg,Fe)₂SiO₄, Mohs hardness 6.5–7. One of the few gemstones that occurs in only one color. Formed in the Earth's mantle, it has also been found in meteorites. Locations: Pakistan, Myanmar, Egypt (Zabargad), USA.
Pyrite: Iron sulfide (FeS₂), Mohs hardness 6–6.5, cubic crystal system. Its golden metallic luster earned it the nickname "fool's gold." One of the most common sulfide minerals worldwide.
Pearl: Organic gemstone (CaCO₃/aragonite + conchiolin), Mohs hardness 2.5–4.5. Sensitive to acids, perfume, and cosmetics.
