Goldstone is not a natural stone, but a synthetically produced glass that gets its characteristic glitter effect by melting in copper or iron oxide particles. Blue goldstone owes its color to iron oxide inclusions, which are finely distributed in the glass and sparkle in the light. Despite its artificial origin, goldstone has been a popular gemstone for centuries – its creation is often attributed to Venetian Murano glass of the 17th century.
