Kunzite is the pink to violet variety of the mineral spodumene (LiAlSi₂O₆), Mohs hardness 6.5–7, monoclinic crystal system. Its delicate color is created by manganese inclusions. Kunzite was only discovered in 1902 and named after the American mineralogist George Frederick Kunz. It displays pronounced pleochroism: depending on the viewing angle, it appears pink, violet, or colorless. Significant deposits: Afghanistan, Brazil, USA (California), Madagascar, Pakistan.
Significance in crystal healing
Kunzite is considered a stone of unconditional love and emotional healing. It is said to open the heart, promote compassion and self-love, and release stress, anxiety, and emotional blockages. It is believed to be associated with the heart chakra. These attributions are based on traditional lore and are not scientifically proven. They do not replace medical treatment.
