Agates, quartz minerals of the chalcedony group, form in cavities of volcanic rocks. The gradual, phased solidification and drying process creates the layered patterns and often bizarre designs typical of agates. The individual layers of agate can consist of chalcedony, crystalline quartz, jasper, or even opal.

The color variations of agates are diverse, and they occur worldwide. However, agates are often dyed or heat-treated. Therefore, it can be safely assumed that all green, blue, and pink agates are always dyed and are thus considered more as gemstones than as healing stones.

Natural agates, mostly in brown and gray tones, have a very balancing effect and strengthen one's sense of reality. The healing properties attributed to individual agates, according to literature, vary slightly depending on the variety. Generally, agate is said to have a strengthening and grounding effect on the organs. On a psychological level, it is believed to boost self-confidence.
