Botswana agate is a natural agate with characteristic brown and white stripes, named after its main discovery site in Botswana. Agates form in cavities of volcanic rocks: The gradual, phased solidification and drying out of silicic acid solutions create the layered patterns typical of agates. The individual layers can consist of chalcedony, crystalline quartz, jasper, or opal. The fine facet cut of the large 14mm spheres particularly impressively highlights the natural striations.
