Agates belong to the chalcedony group and thus to the quartz minerals. They form in cavities of volcanic rocks, where silicic acid solutions are deposited and solidify in phases. This layered structure creates the typical layers and patterns of agates – no two stones are alike. The individual layers can consist of chalcedony, crystalline quartz, jasper, or opal.
Vibrantly green agates do not occur in nature with this intensity – the color is created by dyeing or heating. The fine faceted cut of these spheres particularly highlights the play of light in the stone. Agate is found worldwide; significant deposits are located in Brazil, Uruguay, India, Madagascar, and Germany (Idar-Oberstein).
Meaning in healing stone therapy
Agate is generally attributed a balancing and grounding effect in healing stone therapy. It is said to strengthen the sense of reality and have a stabilizing effect on body and mind. Since this agate is dyed, it is usually considered more of a decorative stone in healing stone therapy. These attributions are based on traditional beliefs and are not scientifically proven. They do not replace medical treatment.
