Amazonite belongs to the group of potassium feldspars (microcline) and is a layer silicate with a triclinic crystal structure. Its characteristic color ranges from light blue and greenish to strong turquoise – caused by traces of lead and water in the crystal lattice. The Mohs hardness is 6 to 6.5, which makes it robust enough for delicate jewelry. In faceted processing, its natural pearlescent luster comes into its own particularly beautifully. The stone is often traversed by white veins, which give it a lively, unmistakable pattern. It was named by Alexander von Humboldt, who called it "stone from the Amazon". The most important deposits are Brazil, Peru, and Russia.
