Amazonite was named by Alexander von Humboldt, who called it "stone of the Amazon" – although its main occurrence is not in the Amazon region, but in Brazil, Peru, and Russia. Amazonite belongs to the potassium feldspar group and exhibits a characteristic light blue to strong turquoise color, which results from the inclusion of lead and water in the crystal lattice.
