The name Amethyst comes from the Greek – amethystos means "not intoxicated." In antiquity, people believed the stone protected against the effects of wine, which is why drinking vessels were often made of amethyst.

Mineralogically, amethyst is the violet variety of crystal quartz. The characteristic color is caused by iron inclusions in the crystal lattice. The small 4mm beads are ideal as accent beads or for delicate bracelets and necklaces.
