The name Amethyst comes from Greek – amethystos means "not intoxicated". In ancient times, people believed the stone protected against the effects of wine, which is why drinking vessels were often made of amethyst.

Mineralogically, amethyst is the violet variety of crystal quartz. The characteristic color is created by iron inclusions in the crystal lattice. The fine faceted cut of these 6mm beads particularly highlights the stone's play of light.
