The name Amethyst comes from Greek – amethystos means "not intoxicated". In ancient times, people believed the stone protected against the effects of wine, which is why drinking vessels were often made of amethyst.

Mineralogically, amethyst is the purple variety of crystal quartz. The characteristic colour is created by iron inclusions in the crystal lattice. The fine faceted cut of these 6mm beads particularly enhances the stone's play of light.

Meaning in crystal healing

In crystal healing, amethyst is attributed a calming and clarifying effect. It is considered supportive in coping with difficult phases of life and is said to promote concentration and intuition.
