The name Amethyst comes from Greek – amethystos means "not intoxicated." In ancient times, people believed the stone protected against the effects of wine, which is why drinking vessels were often made of amethyst.

Mineralogically, amethyst is the violet variety of crystalline quartz. The characteristic color is caused by iron inclusions in the crystal lattice. The tumble-polished stones of this strand show the natural, organic form of amethyst – no two stones are alike. The slightly graduating size gives the strand a vibrant, natural character.
