Ruby – its name comes from the Latin “rubeus” (“red”) and replaced the term “carbuncle” in the 12th century, which was previously used for all red gemstones. This pendant features a special ruby: the star ruby. The characteristic six-rayed star pattern—known as asterism—is created by needle-like rutile inclusions within the corundum, which focus the light into a six-pointed star. This phenomenon is only visible in a cabochon cut. The coloring element is chromium, which gives the ruby its characteristic fiery red. Set in 925 sterling silver.
Stone size: approx. 13 x 15 mm
Cut: Cabochon (for asterism effect)
Setting: 925 sterling silver
Color: Deep red to purplish-red with a six-rayed light effect
Mineralogy: Corundum (Al₂O₃), red due to chromium; asterism due to rutile inclusions
The star effect makes every star ruby a unique natural spectacle – a fascinating pendant for a silver chain or as a special collector's item.
