The name Apatite comes from the Greek apatao – “to deceive” – because the stone was and still is easily confused with other minerals. Mineralogically, apatite is a calcium phosphate and is one of the most common phosphate minerals on Earth. It exhibits a remarkable variety of colors: colorless, brown, yellow, green, blue, and rarely pink and violet. The blue variety is one of the most sought-after gemstones.
Deposits: USA, Russia, Mexico, Canada, Madagascar, India, Sri Lanka, Burma, Brazil, China, Morocco, Switzerland, Pakistan.
Meaning in crystal healing
In crystal healing, apatite is attributed with a clarifying and motivating effect. It is said to promote concentration and openness and to balance mood swings. These attributions are based on traditional beliefs and are not scientifically proven. They do not replace medical treatment.
