Aquamarine is a blue to blue-green variety of beryl (Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈) with a Mohs hardness of 7.5–8. Its characteristic color is caused by iron inclusions in the crystal lattice. The name comes from the Latin: "aqua marina" – water of the sea. Aquamarine belongs to the same mineral family as emerald and morganite. The tumbled stones are polished smooth by machine tumbling – each stone is unique in shape and color. Significant locations: Brazil (Minas Gerais), Afghanistan, Russia, China, Africa.
Significance in Crystal Healing
Aquamarine is considered a stone of clarity, serenity, and communication. It is said to have a calming effect on the mind and nerves, to promote inner peace, and to support clear, authentic speech. It is said to help release emotional blockages and old resentment, and it is traditionally worn as a protective stone for travelers – especially those at sea. It is associated with the throat chakra and the heart chakra. These attributions are based on handed-down tradition and are not scientifically proven. They do not replace medical treatment.
