Beryl is the name of an entire family of wonderful gemstones. The most famous of these is aquamarine. Aquamarine (Latin for "water of the sea") got its name from its color, which ranges from delicate light blue to aquamarine blue and dark green-blue. The element that gives this blue member of the beryl group its color is iron.
The pink variety of beryl is called morganite. Morganite, the pink variety of beryl, was already considered a magical and healing stone in ancient times. The ancient Greeks believed that morganite enhanced their reputation and could preserve love in marriage. They also recognized that this gemstone could refract and redirect light. From this ability and the name "beryll," the German word for glasses originated.
According to healing stone literature, morganite is considered a stone of the heart, providing peace and serenity. It's good for stress and anxiety and ideal for meditation.
Varieties of the beryl family:
Aquamarine, bixhibite (red beryl), gold beryl, goshenite, heliodor, morganite (pink beryl), emerald, vanadium beryl
The most important beryl deposits are located in Brazil (Minas Gerais). Other deposits are found in Afghanistan, Russia, China, and Africa.
