The aquamarine owes its name to Latin – aqua marina means "water of the sea". The color ranges from delicate light blue to classic aquamarine blue to a dark green-blue. The coloring element is iron. Mineralogically, aquamarine belongs to the beryl group. The large 8–9 mm spheres create a striking, noble accent in any piece of jewelry.

The most important aquamarine deposits are in Brazil (Minas Gerais). Other locations: Afghanistan, Russia, China, Nigeria, Madagascar, Mozambique, India, Pakistan, Zambia.
