Aquamarine (Latin for "water of the sea") gets its name from its color, which ranges from a delicate light blue to aquamarine blue and on to a dark greenish-blue. The coloring element for this blue member of the beryl group is iron.
The most important aquamarine deposits are located in Brazil (Minas Gerais). Other deposits are found in Afghanistan, Russia, China, and Africa.
