The name Aventurine is derived from the Italian a ventura – "by chance" – and refers to a randomly discovered glass variety with a similar shimmer. Green aventurine is a fine-grained quartz whose characteristic sparkle is caused by embedded fuchsite or hematite platelets – this phenomenon is called aventurescence. The matte surface of these beads emphasizes the natural texture and color of the stone.
