Brecciated jasper is a variety of jasper that belongs mineralogically to the chalcedony group (SiO₂, microcrystalline). Mohs hardness 6.5–7. Mineral inclusions of up to 20% create the characteristic breccia-like patterns: angular rock fragments that have been rejoined by a natural binding agent – similar to broken rock that has been recemented.
