Light blue chalcedony is a microcrystalline quartz (SiO₂) with a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7. The characteristic light blue color is created by finely distributed inclusions. The name is derived from the ancient city of Chalcedon (now Kadıköy, Turkey) on the Bosphorus. Chalcedony belongs to the trigonal crystal system and exhibits a waxy luster.
