Design Necklace Faceted Drop with Amethyst, Aquamarine, Iolite, Apatite, and Moonstone

Five stones in a spectrum of blue, violet, and delicate shimmer – this necklace combines amethyst, aquamarine, iolite, apatite, and moonstone in faceted drop cuts. Each stone brings its own color nuance and traditional energy; together, they create a calm, harmonious overall picture. The necklace sits comfortably on the neck with its silver carabiner and extension chain and can be individually adjusted in length.

  • Cut: Drop, faceted – lively play of light due to precise cut edges
  • Length 42–45 cm – continuously adjustable thanks to extension chain with silver carabiner
  • Five Stone Types: Amethyst, Aquamarine, Iolite (Cordierite), Apatite, Moonstone
  • Mineralogy: four different mineral families – Quartz, Beryl, Cordierite, Phosphate, and Feldspar
  • Unique piece – color nuances and stone arrangement vary from piece to piece

Mineralogy & History

This necklace combines five stones from different mineral families – a mineralogical diversity that makes it special:

Amethyst is a variety of quartz (SiO₂) and gets its violet color from iron ions and natural radiation in the earth's interior. It is one of the oldest gemstones in human history. Hardness: 7 on the Mohs scale.

Aquamarine belongs to the beryl family (Be₃Al₂Si₆O₁₈) and owes its blue-green color to iron ions. Its name is derived from the Latin aqua marina (sea water). Significant deposits are found in Brazil, Pakistan, and Mozambique. Hardness: 7.5–8 on the Mohs scale.

Iolite, mineralogically known as cordierite (Mg₂Al₄Si₅O₁₈), exhibits pleochroism – depending on the viewing angle, it appears violet-blue, gray, or almost colorless. Vikings are said to have used it as a navigation aid to determine the position of the sun on cloudy days. Hardness: 7–7.5 on the Mohs scale.

Apatite (Ca₅(PO₄)₃(F,Cl,OH)) is a phosphate mineral and one of the lesser-known but colorfully impressive gemstones. Its turquoise to blue-green color results from manganese and rare earth inclusions. The name is derived from the Greek apatao (to deceive) – because its color diversity often led to confusion with other stones. Apatite is also the mineral from which human teeth and bones are made. Hardness: 5 on the Mohs scale.

Moonstone belongs to the feldspar group (Orthoclase/Adular) and is known for its adularescence effect – a bluish-white play of light caused by light refraction at internal layer structures. It is mainly mined in Sri Lanka, India, and Myanmar. Hardness: 6–6.5 on the Mohs scale.

Meaning in Gemstone Healing

The five stones in this necklace are associated with intuition, clarity, and emotional depth in gemstone healing:

Amethyst is considered a stone of inner calm and clarity. It is said to calm the mind, interrupt circular thoughts, and provide support in cases of overwhelm. Associated with the third eye and crown chakras.

Aquamarine is associated with clarity, courage, and calm communication. It is said to help organize thoughts and keep a cool head in difficult conversations. Associated with the throat chakra.

Iolite is described as a stone of inner orientation. It is said to strengthen intuition and self-knowledge and help find one's own path. Associated with the third eye chakra.

Apatite is associated in gemstone healing with motivation, clarity, and overcoming inner blockages. It is said to help formulate goals clearly and strengthen one's own drive. Occasionally, it is also assigned to the throat chakra and described as supportive for honest self-reflection.

Moonstone is considered a stone of intuition and emotional depth. It is said to help perceive and accept feelings without being overwhelmed by them. Associated with the crown chakra and the sacral chakra, it is particularly valued during phases of change.

Note: The described effects are derived from the tradition of gemstone healing and are not scientifically proven statements. Gemstones do not replace medical or therapeutic treatment.

General Notes

All stones used are natural products – slight color differences and individual inclusions are signs of their authenticity. For care, a soft, dry cloth is sufficient. Please store separately from other jewelry to avoid scratches. Apatite, with a hardness of 5, is the softest stone in this necklace and should be handled with particular care. Amethyst can fade with prolonged direct sunlight – therefore, apply perfume and creams before putting it on.
