Dumortierite was named after the 19th-century French paleontologist Eugène Dumortier. This mineral belongs to the nesosilicate group and captivates with its intense, deep blue to bluish-violet coloring – one of the most vibrant blue hues in the mineral kingdom. Its characteristic color comes from inclusions of iron and titanium. When dumortierite is interspersed with massive quartz, it is known as dumortierite quartz – a common appearance that allows for slight variations in color intensity.
