Garnet appears in this gemstone necklace as a 6 mm square-cut disc chain in a rich, dark red. The flat square stones glow with a characteristic vitreous luster, giving the necklace a modern, geometric character. Garnet is a group of silicates with a similar crystal structure – the red varieties almandine (Fe₃Al₂(SiO₄)₃) and pyrope (Mg₃Al₂(SiO₄)₃) are the best-known gemstones. Depending on the variety, the Mohs hardness is 6.5–7.5. The deep red color is caused by iron and manganese ions in the crystal lattice.
