Falcon's eye is a variety of tiger's eye and belongs to the quartz family (SiO₂), with a Mohs hardness of 7. It displays the characteristic chatoyancy effect (cat's eye effect): parallel crocidolite fibers within the quartz create a silky streak of light that moves across the surface – similar to the watchful gaze of a falcon. In contrast to the golden-brown tiger's eye, falcon's eye exhibits cooler blue-green to blue-gray tones, as the crocidolite fibers are less oxidized.
