The island of Réunion, located in the southern Indian Ocean off the coast of Madagascar, has been known to major perfumers for over a century as a source of the finest geranium essential oil. Known as Geranium Bourbon in homage to the island's previous name, île Bourbon, this variety of geranium essential oil has a complex, green-floral fragrance with delicate rosy undertones. Up to 400 kg of geranium leaves, flowers, and stems are distilled to produce 1 liter of essential oil.
