Goldstone is not a natural stone, but a synthetically produced glass that gets its characteristic glitter effect from the melting in of iron oxide particles. Blue goldstone owes its color to finely distributed iron oxide inclusions that sparkle in the light. The faceting of the beads further enhances this light effect and gives the strand a particularly lively play of blue and gold. Despite its artificial origin, goldstone has been a popular gemstone for centuries, its origin often attributed to 17th-century Venetian Murano glass.
