Goldstone is not a natural stone but a synthetically produced glass that gets its characteristic glitter effect from melted-in iron oxide particles. Blue goldstone owes its colour to finely distributed iron oxide inclusions that sparkle in the light. The small 6 mm balls with their fine faceting appear particularly delicate and are ideal for filigree jewellery. Despite its artificial origin, goldstone has been a popular gemstone for centuries, its origin often attributed to 17th-century Venetian Murano glass.
