Goldstone is not a natural stone, but a synthetically produced glass that gets its characteristic glitter effect from the melting in of iron oxide particles. Blue goldstone owes its colour to finely distributed iron oxide inclusions, which sparkle in the light. The faceting of the 8 mm beads breaks the light into many small reflections and gives the strand a lively, sparkling play of blue and gold. Despite its artificial origin, goldstone has been a popular gemstone for centuries, its origin often attributed to Venetian Murano glass of the 17th century.
