Iolite (Cordierite) bead bracelet 4 mm faceted

Iolite is mineralogically cordierite, a magnesium-iron-aluminum silicate ((Mg,Fe)₂Al₄Si₅O₁₈), Mohs hardness 7–7.5, orthorhombic crystal system. The name is derived from the Greek "ios" (violet). Iolite exhibits fascinating pleochroism: depending on the viewing angle, it appears violet-blue, gray, or yellowish. Historically, Vikings used thin slices of iolite as a sun compass for navigation – the stone helped to determine the sun's position even in cloudy skies. The knot is concealed under a silver bead. Locations: Sri Lanka, India, Madagascar, Brazil.
