Garnet is a group of silicate minerals. The red varieties almandine (Fe₃Al₂Si₃O₁₂) and pyrope (Mg₃Al₂Si₃O₁₂) are the best known – popularly referred to as "carbuncle." Mohs hardness 6.5–7.5. The 5.5 mm beads offer an expressive presence on the wrist and display the characteristic vitreous luster of garnet. Significant deposits: India, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Brazil, Austria.
