Jade is one of the oldest and most culturally significant gemstones in the world. The name is derived from the Spanish "piedra de ijada" (loin stone) – an indication that jade has been valued for centuries as a protective and healing stone against kidney ailments. The Chinese name "Yü" means "beautiful stone"; in China, jade is considered a sacred stone and a symbol of virtue, purity, and happiness. The term jade encompasses two different minerals: jadeite and nephrite. Jadeite is characterized by its particular toughness – in prehistoric times, even weapons were made from it. The most valuable variety is Burma Jade (Imperial Jade). Purple jade captivates with its soft, elegant color and is a particularly popular variety for expressive, feminine jewelry. This strand consists of genuine Chinese jade (jadeite) in dyed purple.
