Carnelian is an orange to reddish-orange variety of chalcedony, with a color spectrum ranging from orange to flesh red. The characteristic color is due to natural iron oxide inclusions in the crystal lattice. Carnelian is one of humanity's oldest gemstones and was valued as a protective and lucky stone in ancient Egypt and antiquity. The tiny 2mm beads, with their faceting, sparkle intensely and warmly despite their delicate size – ideal as spacer beads or for particularly delicate, filigree jewelry creations. Note: Red agate is often referred to as carnelian in trade – however, unlike this natural stone, it is artificially colored.
