Cut: Faceted ball
Color: Orange to flesh red
Mineralogy: Carnelian (Chalcedony group, silicon dioxide)
Carnelian is an orange to reddish-orange variety of chalcedony, with a color spectrum ranging from orange to flesh red. The characteristic color is caused by natural iron oxide inclusions in the crystal lattice. Carnelian is one of the oldest gemstones known to humankind and was valued as a protective and lucky stone in ancient Egypt and classical antiquity. The 4mm faceted beads combine a versatile size with a lively, warm sparkle – ideal as main beads or accent beads in modern and classic jewelry creations. Note: Red agate is often referred to as carnelian in trade – however, unlike this natural stone, it is artificially colored.
Significant deposits: Botswana, Brazil, South Africa, Russia, England, USA.
