Strand length: approx. 40 cm
Stone size: 13 × 4 mm
Cut: Square (flat disc/square)
Color: Orange
Mineralogy: Carnelian (Chalcedony group, silicon dioxide)
Carnelian is an orange to orange-red variety of chalcedony, whose color spectrum ranges from orange to flesh-red. The characteristic color is caused by natural iron oxide inclusions in the crystal lattice. Carnelian is one of humanity's oldest gemstones and was already valued as a protective and lucky stone in ancient Egypt and antiquity. The flat square beads (13×4 mm) give the strand a modern, geometric touch – the wide, flat shape showcases the warm color of carnelian broadly and impressively, ideal for contemporary design necklaces and collarettes. Note: Red agate is often referred to as carnelian in trade – however, unlike this natural stone, it is artificially colored.
Important deposits: Botswana, Brazil, South Africa, Russia, England, USA.
