Carnelian is an orange to reddish-orange variety of chalcedony, with a color spectrum ranging from orange to flesh-red. The characteristic color is due to natural iron oxide inclusions in the crystal lattice. Carnelian is one of the oldest gemstones known to humankind and was valued as a protective and lucky stone in ancient Egypt and classical antiquity. The 6mm beads are one of the most popular sizes – versatile for necklaces, bracelet beads, and mala chains. Note: Red agate is often referred to as carnelian in trade – however, unlike this natural stone, it is artificially colored.
