Carnelian is an orange to reddish-orange variety of chalcedony, with a color spectrum ranging from orange to flesh-red. The characteristic color is due to natural iron oxide inclusions in the crystal lattice. Carnelian is one of humanity's oldest gemstones and was valued as a protective and lucky stone in ancient Egypt and antiquity. The fine 2.5 mm faceted beads sparkle warmly and vibrantly – ideal as spacer beads or for delicate, intricate jewelry creations. Note: Red agate is often referred to as carnelian in trade – however, unlike this natural stone, it is artificially colored.
Significant Deposits: Botswana, Brazil, South Africa, Russia, England, USA.
