Carnelian is an orange to orange-red variety of chalcedony, with a color spectrum ranging from orange to flesh red. The characteristic color is caused by natural iron oxide inclusions in the crystal lattice. Carnelian is one of the oldest gemstones known to mankind and was already valued in ancient Egypt and antiquity as a protective and lucky stone. The 4mm spheres are a versatile size – ideal as main beads for delicate necklaces or as accent beads in combined creations. Note: Red agate is often referred to as carnelian in trade – however, unlike this natural stone, it is artificially colored.
