Strand length: approx. 40 cm
Stone size: 10 mm diameter
Cut: Ball
Color: Orange
Mineralogy: Carnelian (Chalcedony group, silicon dioxide)
Carnelian is an orange to orange-red variety of chalcedony, with a color spectrum ranging from orange to flesh-red. The characteristic color is caused by natural iron oxide inclusions in the crystal lattice. Carnelian is one of the oldest gemstones used by humankind and was already valued as a protective and lucky stone in ancient Egypt and antiquity. The large 10mm beads particularly impressively showcase the warm, vibrant color palette of carnelian – an expressive strand for necklaces and colliers. Note: Red agate is often referred to as carnelian in trade – however, unlike this natural stone, it is artificially colored.
Important deposits: Botswana, Brazil, South Africa, Russia, England, USA.
