Carnelian is an orange to orange-red variety of chalcedony, with a color spectrum ranging from orange to flesh red. The characteristic color is created by natural iron oxide inclusions in the crystal lattice. Carnelian is one of the oldest gemstones known to mankind and was already valued as a protective and lucky stone in ancient Egypt and antiquity. The small 3mm cubes with their faceting combine geometric clarity with a lively play of light – ideal for delicate, modern jewelry creations and as spacer beads. Note: Red agate is often referred to as carnelian in trade – unlike this natural stone, however, it is artificially colored.
