Carnelian is an orange to reddish-orange variety of chalcedony, whose color spectrum ranges from orange to flesh-red. The characteristic color is created by natural iron oxide inclusions in the crystal lattice. Carnelian is one of the oldest gemstones known to mankind and was valued as a protective and lucky stone in ancient Egypt and classical antiquity. The long, narrow ovals (5×22 mm) give the strand a particularly elegant, flowing effect – ideal for longer necklaces and expressive design chains. Note: Red agate is often referred to as carnelian in trade – however, unlike this natural stone, it is artificially colored.
