Labradorite belongs to the feldspar group and is closely related to moonstone. Its distinctive feature is the so-called labradorescence – an optical phenomenon where light is refracted by thin layers within the stone, creating a fascinating play of colors in blue, green, gold, violet, and orange. The base color is a deep grey, which highlights the shimmer particularly impressively. Labradorite was first discovered in 1770 on the Canadian Labrador Peninsula – hence its name. The delicate 2.5 mm near-round beads with their faceting sparkle vividly despite their tiny size – ideal as spacer beads or for particularly delicate jewelry creations.
Significant deposits: Canada (Labrador), Madagascar, Finland, Russia, Norway.
Meaning in crystal healing
In crystal healing, labradorite is considered a stone of balance and inner harmony. It is said to have aggression-inhibiting and emotionally modulating effects, as well as helping to promote inner strength and intuition. These attributions are based on traditional beliefs and are not scientifically proven. They do not replace medical treatment.
