Lapis Lazuli is mineralogically a metamorphic rock – a rock aggregate composed of lazurite ((Na,Ca)₈(AlSiO₄)₆(S,SO₄,Cl)₁₂, blue), pyrite (FeS₂, golden inclusions), and calcite (CaCO₃, white veins), with a Mohs hardness of 5–6.
