Lapis Lazuli is one of the oldest and most sought-after gemstones in the world. Its name combines the Latin "Lapis" (stone) and the Arabic "Azul" (sky) – an indication of its intense, sky-blue color. Lapis Lazuli is not a single mineral, but a rock composed of lazurite (for the deep blue), calcite (white veins), and pyrite (golden glitter). Over 6,000 years ago, it was already mined in Afghanistan and valued as a gemstone, protective amulet, and pigment. The slightly larger tumble beads (approx. 8–9 × 6–7 mm) have an organic, natural shape – each bead is unique and gives the strand an casual, authentic character.
Important deposits: Afghanistan (Badakhshan), Chile, Russia, USA.
