This delicate, elegant necklace made of genuine Larimar carries the calm and expanse of the Caribbean Sea within it. The finely shaped button-cut stones, approx. 6 mm in size, are harmoniously strung together and display the typical, cloud-like pattern of Larimar in a soft sky blue. Mineralogical Properties

Mineralogically, Larimar is a Pectolite – a calcium sodium silicate (NaCa₂Si₃O₈(OH)) – and belongs to the group of inosilicates. Its extraordinary light blue to turquoise color is due to traces of copper and vanadium in the crystal lattice, making it one of the rarest colored gemstones in the world. Its Mohs hardness is 4.5 to 5 – it is therefore comparatively soft and should be handled with care. Larimar exhibits a silky to matte luster and is often traversed by white, cloud-like patterns, which give it its characteristic, sea-inspired appearance. The more intense and uniform the blue, the more valuable the stone. Larimar has only one known deposit worldwide: the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. It was discovered and named in 1975 by Miguel Méndez – from the girl's name "Lari" and the Spanish word "Mar" for "sea".
