Peridot – also known as Olivine, from which it gets its second name – is one of the few gemstones that occur in only one color: the characteristic olive green, which is created by the iron content in the crystal lattice. Peridots of good, pure quality are rare, which is reflected in the price. The button strand with its faceting creates fine light reflections and makes the warm green glow vibrantly. Peridot is one of the oldest known gemstones and was already mined in ancient Egypt on the island of Zabargad.
Major deposits: Egypt, Burma, China, Norway, Pakistan, USA.
Meaning in crystal healing
In crystal healing, Peridot is considered a cleansing and clarifying stone. It is said to help release anger, rage, and pain and transform negative energies into positive ones. Traditionally, it is associated with digestion, liver, and detoxification, and is described as a companion for melancholy and depressive moods. These attributions are based on traditional beliefs and are not scientifically proven. They do not replace medical treatment.
