Lapis Lazuli is mineralogically a metamorphic rock – a mixture of lazurite ((Na,Ca)₈(AlSiO₄)₆(S,SO₄,Cl)₁₂, blue), pyrite (FeS₂, golden inclusions), and calcite (CaCO₃, white veins), Mohs hardness 5–6. B-grade quality is characterized by a higher calcite content, which gives the stone a more natural, marbled appearance – its spiritual effect remains completely intact. The delicate 4 mm beads are ideal for a filigree look suitable for everyday wear. Significant deposits: Afghanistan (Badakhshan), Chile, Russia, Pakistan.
