Mother-of-pearl is the inner layer of the shell—composed of fine aragonite platelets (CaCO₃) and conchiolin, which create its characteristic iridescence. The Tahitian shell (black-lipped pearl oyster, Pinctada margaritifera) provides a naturally dark gray to anthracite mother-of-pearl with a cool, silvery shimmer—quite different from the warm white of the South Sea shell or the colorful iridescence of abalone. The large plates (20 × 28 mm) show off this elegant shimmer particularly impressively. Each piece is handcrafted; as a natural material, slight variations in shape and color may occur.
